After more than a decade of experience in retail luxury eyewear, Laura Le Bihan and Xavier Matrand decided to bring their shared vision to life. Self-taught creatives, they immersed themselves in the intricacies of manufacturing.
Armed with their knowledge of the trade and its tools, as self-taught creators, they naturally discovered the behind-the-scenes aspects of eyewear manufacturing over the years.

In 2014, the duo presented their first collection.
In 2012, the duo unveiled their first collection. A year later, Scarlett Johansson wore one of their designs in Luc Besson’s film LUCY. Shortly after, their frames made their way into Colette’s curated selection—a defining moment that marked the launch of PETER AND MAY. A name born from the letters of their own, this reimagined identity reflects their instinct, expertise, and complementarity, shaping the DNA of their collections. Under a name uniting their flair, experience, and shared passion, PETER AND MAY stands for the duo’s complementarity, as they put it. This synergy has shaped the DNA of their collection. Season after season, Peter and May has become synonymous with the Parisian spirit and effortless elegance - pieces that elevate everyday style with confidence. In France we call this ‘Allure’.

GENESIS
Their initial inspiration originated from a small hallmarked button crafted by a French fashion house, which they discovered in an antique shop. This distinctive cross-stitch design hence became the brand’s defining feature.
From the start, the project was meant to become an integral creative studio.
PETER AND MAY pieces soon appeared in prestigious showrooms and international fashion shows, and quickly gained strong support from the likes of Colette, Moda Operandi, and Dover Street Market thanks to their designs. The duo has always worked very closely with the fashion industry, designing pieces for the fashion shows of high-end designers, such as Wanda Nylon, introducing a capsule collection for the brand that won the ANDAM prize that year.
